Charlotte, North Carolina recently has undergone quite a change. One change is a reference to the name of the heart of the city. Old timers refer to the area as downtown, whereas newcomers refer to it as uptown. Uptown hosts a population of around 11,000, but more than 44,000 people work in the city. Another section of Uptown Charlotte is devoted to the financial district. Charlotte is second only to New York City in the housing of financial institutions. Bank of America and Wachovia are just two of the companies that have established their headquarters in Uptown Charlotte. With the renovation of Uptown Charlotte, tourist trade has increased dramatically.
