Currently, the U.S. has over 127,000 troops deployed in Iraq. Regardless of the varying positions on both the war itself and the politics behind it, each and every American recognizes the need to support the soldiers at war. These brave men and women who daily put their lives on the line in the heat of battle are from every city and state in the U.S. and are members of every color and creed on Earth. Just as heroically as these soldiers fight, so to do their families and friends back home to get them the slice of normalcy they so deserve and so covet.
One such organization that aims to help is Any Soldier, Inc. Started in August 2003 in time for the beginning of America’s occupation of Iraq, the group distributes packages to soldiers who do not receive mail so that they can have items like soap, comfort food, socks and underwear, etc. So far, the group has helped over 90,000 soldiers. There’s also organizations like Cell Phones for Soldiers, who give free phones to soldiers to call home. As well, there is even a service like Noanie.com, which lists over 50 different organizations that offers help in sending everything from the standard care packages to how teachers can use emails and letters to soldiers to better teach their students.
Whether or not the war ends tomorrow, in a month or occupation continues for years, the soldiers at war need our help and must know they have dedicated individuals and groups to turn to for the simple things they deserve for their ultimate sacrifice.
